Angela R. Ozburn, Ph.D. Co-Director and Contact PI, OHSU

 Angela Ozburn, Ph.D., is a Native American neuroscientist and the Co-Director of two post-doctoral training programs: IRACDA at OHSU and OHSU Fellowship for Diversity in Research. As a first generation college student, she found support in structured mentoring and research experiences that were pivotal for advancement in her academic research career. She now dedicates a significant portion of her time to training underrepresented individuals to become the next generation of scientists and physicians. Dr. Ozburn earned a PhD in Neuroscience (2009) from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Ozburn is a member of two NIH-funded collaborative grants (the Integrative Neuroscience Initiative on Alcoholism-Neuroimmune Consortium and the Portland Alcohol Research Center), where her lab collaborates with others to use novel approaches in bioinformatics to identify and test therapeutic compounds that oppose alcohol and drug-induced molecular signatures. Her VA-funded project focuses on identifying the brain circuitry and neural substrates involved in binge-like alcohol drinking. Visit Dr. Ozburn’s lab website to learn more about her research.

Letisha R. Wyatt, Ph.D. (she/her) Co-Director and Co-PI, OHSU

Letisha Wyatt, PhD

Letisha R. Wyatt, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Neurology and the Director of Diversity in Research in the OHSU Office of Research and Innovation. She holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Pharmacology &Toxicology from the University of Southern California (2013). Her graduate and postdoctoral research focused on purinergic signaling in the central nervous system as a molecular target for new treatments for alcohol abuse and stroke. Dr. Wyatt is a former NIH predoctoral fellow and has a strong record of mentorship in the laboratory and classroom. As the Director of Diversity in Research she oversees the development and implementation of training programs for scientists from historically minoritized and underserved backgrounds acting as co-director/PI of IRACDA at OHSU, the OHSU Fellowship for Diversity in Research, and OHSU PREP. Dr. Wyatt also serves as the Director of Innovative Policy at the Racial Equity and Inclusion Center in the Vollum Institute where she focuses on building operational plans and internal systems to achieve organizational effectiveness in progressive workplace policies that advance racial equity. A major goal of her effort in this area is to engage with institutional leadership so that they may be empowered to identify structural racism and actively participate in the work to dismantle it. Peter G. Barr-Gillespie, Ph.D. Co-I, OHSU

Dr. Barr-Gillespie is the Chief Research Officer at OHSU and leads the Research and Innovation office. He has been a champion of equity and inclusion initiatives at OHSU and serves as a program adviser.

Katherine (Katy) Lehmann, Ph.D. Postdoctoral Scholar, OHSU

Katy is a postdoc who splits her professional/training time between the OFDIR and IRACDA programs and basic neuroscience research at the Vollum Institute in the Freeman Lab. She has long been interested in how systems of oppression intersect with scientific research training, and she is grateful for the opportunity to work at the intersection of these topics. In addition to her work at the bench, Katy has pursued various teaching and mentoring opportunities, including designing and teaching an introductory biology course at Lewis & Clark College and co-designing a grant writing workshop for first-year graduate students.

Karen Bromley Program Administrator, OHSU

Karen Bromley is the Program Administrator of OFDIR and IRACDA at OHSU. She is a second-generation Filipina American with over 20 years of experience as a non-profit and education administrator in the areas of fund development, program management, and communication. After receiving her BA in English at the University of San Francisco, Karen went on to support organizations that advocated for the arts, education, and Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. She deepened her understanding of AAPI issues as a graduate student in San Francisco State University’s Asian American Studies program, which strengthened her dedication to community-building and multicultural advancement. She is an active volunteer at her children’s elementary school in the Hillsboro School District, where she particularly loves supporting the amazing neurodiverse students in the classroom.

Angelica (an-jeh-luh-kuh) has been with OHSU since Fall of 2014. She serves as the Administrative Coordinator for various departments within the Research umbrella. She loves being able to help others, it’s a career path that she finds to be very rewarding.

Andrew Saultz, PhD Co-Director, Pacific University

Andrew Saultz Headshot

Dr. Saultz’s research and teaching focus on building more equitable systems for historically marginalized students. He has seventeen years teaching experience including at the high school, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. As a professor, Dr. Saultz teaches quantitative methods, educational policy, and leadership theory. He also has extensive international teaching experience having taught English in southern Poland, spent a summer in Ecuador studying the history, culture and educational system on a Fulbright Group Program Abroad, visited schools throughout China on a fellowship to enhance global understanding and led an undergraduate trip abroad to the Dominican Republic to learn about community-based leadership. Dr. Saultz has published research on educational leadership, educational equity, and the intersection between health and education policy. He has been awarded more than $5 million in external grant support and his scholarship has been featured in various peer-reviewed publications as well as in The Oregonian, The New York Times, The Chronicle of Higher Education and on National Public Radio.

Dr. Saultz is an antiracist who is committed to shaping a more inclusive and just world. He has built more equitable hiring practices, instructor evaluation, and scholarships. Dr. Saultz has extensive academic leadership experience including serving for five years as the Director of the PhD Program in Education and Leadership, the Chair of the Graduate Council, the Chair of the Faculty Appeals Committee and on the University Accreditation Committee. He is also active in the community having served on various boards including the Blanchet House, Washington County Kids, the Okemos Public School Board and the Cedar Mill Historical Society. Dr. Saultz earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science from Oregon State University, a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from Lewis and Clark College, and a Ph.D. in Educational Policy from Michigan State University. He lives in Portland with his partner and his two sons.

Talina S. M. Corvus, PT, DPT, PhD Co-Director, Pacific University

Talina Corvus Headshot

Dr. Corvus is a physical therapist and certified geriatric clinical specialist with a PhD in Education and Leadership. Her teaching, learning, research, and advocacy is seated at the intersection of health and education, and is driven by increasing equity and diversity in systems. Dr. Corvus’s scholarly work focuses specifically on admissions, belonging in the graduate health classroom, minority student support in graduate health education, Black older adult experiences of physical activity, leadership in the Physical Therapy profession, and enacting diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in health and education. She is the founding chair of the Cultural and Minority Affairs Committee within the American Physical Therapy Association’s Oregon Chapter.

Dr. Corvus’s teaching areas and interests are in diversity, equity, and inclusion, teaching and learning, leadership, systems thinking, research design, qualitative research methods, geriatrics, biomechanics, therapeutic exercise, massage, and anatomy.

In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Corvus develops course curricula and continuing education workshops for state and national organizations.

Lollie Molina Program Coordinator, Pacific University

Lollie Molina Headshot

Lollie brings a wealth of experience and knowledge as the Program Coordinator of the PhD in Education & Leadership program and the College of Education. Her primary role is supporting the approximately 50 doctoral students in the PhD Program. Lollie is committed to building more inclusive structures to support all students. Since 2022, Lollie has chaired the Latinos In Action partnership for Pacific University to strengthen community engagement and support Latine high school students. Lollie’s role in the IRACDA Program will focus on supporting our scholars and connecting them with services at Pacific University.
