Dr. Xiangshu Xiao, Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, and his team were recently awarded a new grant from the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust to develop a new therapy for drug-resistant ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecological cancer in the United States and drug-resistance is a major factor contributing to the high mortality rate. Dr. Xiao and his laboratory recently discovered and patented a new drug that can potentially reverse therapy resistance in ovarian cancer. With this grant, his team will now investigate the therapeutic potential of the new drug and hopes to move this drug toward clinical development to benefit women who are fighting this disease.
