The Team
The radiologists in the Breast Imaging section are board certified subspecialists dedicated to women's health. We are actively involved in research and teaching within OHSU, nationally and internationally. Our section works closely with clinicians in many departments including surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, primary care, and obstetrics and gynecology. Most importantly, we interact closely with our patients and guide them through their imaging and procedures with care and attention.
Fellowship
The breast imaging fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University is a 1 year non-ACGME fellowship program. The fellowship program supports 2 fellows per year, and encompasses all aspects of diagnostic and interventional breast imaging, as well as resident and medical student teaching, clinical and educational research, and breast center patient safety/quality improvement.
Fellows spend the year in the OHSU breast imaging center, receiving clinical training in digital breast tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and all associated interventional techniques including aspiration, steroid injection, biopsy, and preoperative localization. The weekly schedule includes time on diagnostics, screenings, interventions, MRI, interpretation of outside imaging, and academic time.
Fellows have optional non-breast elective time in the second half of the year. Elective rotations are flexible and can be arranged across other radiology sub-specialties, including body, neuro, obstetrical/gynecologic imaging (including fetal MRI), or other areas of radiology, per fellow interest.
Fellows prepare for weekly multidisciplinary breast tumor board conferences. Training is also enriched with participation in a national weekly didactic lecture series and quarterly journal club through the Breast Imaging Fellowship Consortium. Additionally, fellows participate in OHSU breast center M&M and simulation sessions. Fellows also spend time in breast surgery, pathology, and oncology to deepen collaboration and care between these closely related specialties.
Fellows take intermittent breast only weekend call, reading screening exams and MRI’s. There is no overnight or non-breast call. Moonlighting opportunities are available through the institution and associated VA.

Foreign applicants must be legally able to work in the U.S., or eligible to obtain work authorization. Initial and extension J-1 Visas are considered in very rare circumstances. All non-ACGME fellowship candidates must be eligible for H-1B visas, which includes successful completion of all USMLEs.
We are unable to support J-1 applicants that require a Conrad J-1 waiver in order to be eligible for an H-1B visa. All visa applicants must have successfully passed all USMLE steps at least 6 months prior to fellowship start as USMLEs are required for visa applications. LMCC exams are not accepted for H-1B applications.
Facilities
The breast center is located in the Center for Health and Healing building 2 at the South Waterfront campus and opened in the spring of 2019. The breast center is located adjacent to the breast surgery and breast oncology clinics, for close collaboration. The center has 4 Hologic mammogram units, an upright Affirm mammography biopsy unit and 2 dedicated breast ultrasound rooms. MRI’s are performed on 1.5 and 3T scanners. The reading rooms have screening and diagnostic pods with Visage PACS reading stations.
OHSU is located in the west hills and south waterfront of Portland, Oregon. The two campuses are connected by an aerial tram. Access to the campuses is possible by car, bike (free valet parking), public transportation (bus, streetcar, MAX rail system).
Endless outdoor recreational activities are easily accessible from the city. The ocean and mountains are less than 1-1/2 hours away. Metropolitan Portland has won many awards for city planning and offers the best of urban living without sacrificing the landscape.
