BOOST 3 Trial - Public Service Announcement
OHSU is part of a national research study comparing two strategies currently used for monitoring and treating patients with severe traumatic brain injury in the ICU. Patients 14 years or older could be enrolled without informed consent. For more information or to learn how to opt-out, visit boost 3 trial dot org
Opting out of BOOST 3
The doctors and care staff at the hospital may not be able to talk to your family to get consent before enrolling you in BOOST 3. If you feel strongly about NOT being enrolled in this study you may choose to opt-out of BOOST 3, or you may choose to opt-out of all Exception from Informed Consent (EFIC) studies at OHSU.
Remember that EFIC does not mean we don't ever get your consent (or your family's consent), it just means that because you (the patient) are having an emergency we may need to start the study before we talk with you or your family about what is happening.
Choosing to opt-out of BOOST 3 or any EFIC study will in NO WAY affect the care you are given at OHSU. If you choose to opt-out you will receive the standard of care for your condition just as you would if the study was not occurring during your hospital visit.
If you would like to opt-out, please click the link below to complete your request for a "NO-Study" bracelet.
