Facial Pain Conference
Facial Pain Conference: Diagnosis and Treatment
This course has been postponed due to some very exciting developing collaborations. We are postponing the course to allow for these collaborations to fully form, and to bring you the very best facial pain course in 2025. Stay tuned! If you registered for the 2024 course, you will be contacted by one of our course administrators.
Please join Kim Burchiel, MD and Suzie Bergman, DDS as they bring together facial pain experts from around the nation.
There are many causes of facial pain; some of these causes are common and some rare. For example, chronic Temporomandibular Disorders (TMDs) affect more than 1 in every 10 people in the United States, while Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) is estimated to affect 3 in 10,000. The two are often confused for one another, with similar symptoms presented by patients. A Temporomandibular Disorder typically requires conservative management by a physician familiar with the disorder, and can involve physical or occupational therapy, while Trigeminal Neuralgia often requires neurological surgery. Other conditions such as Trigeminal Neuropathic Pain, Anesthesia Dolorosa, Post-Herpetic Neuralgia, and some headache syndromes, add to the diagnostic list.
This one-day seminar will include an interdisciplinary approach to the correct diagnosis and treatment of facial pain with collaborations from the fields of neurosurgery, dentistry, physical therapy, otolaryngology and oral surgery. Come learn how to differentiate these two diagnoses, properly refer patients, and how to apply systematic therapeutic strategies in the diagnosis and treatment of facial pain.
This one-day symposium will be directed at physicians, surgeons, dentists, advanced practice providers (Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners), physical and occupational therapists, and other care providers who are interested in enhanced diagnosis and care for their patients with facial pains and corresponding disorders.
The Facial Pain Course will feature speakers from:
- OHSU Neurosurgery
- OHSU Otolaryngology
- OHSU Oral and Maxiofacial Surgery
- OHSU Skourtes School of Dentistry
- Therapeutic Associates Physical Therapy
