About us
My laboratory has focused on the study of viral pathogenesis by defining host:virus relationships from the whole organism level to the cellular/molecular level. Our first focus area has been determining the role of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection in the development of vascular disease and chronic allograft rejection in solid organ and bone marrow transplantation. The second major focus of my lab has been characterizing pathogenesis associated with the emerging RNA viruses such as Chikungunya virus (CHKV) and Zika virus (ZIKV) using in vivo non-human primate (NHP) models and through the development of novel antiviral therapeutics and vaccines. In addition, we have recently developed NHP infection and disease models to the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) and Mayaro virus, an arthritogenic alphavirus with emergence potential.
