Axial Spondyloarthritis Clinic
Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is an immune-mediated condition that affects predominantly the spine and axial skeleton. It can also manifest in the peripheral joints and can affect other organ systems such as the eyes, skin, and intestines.
Axial spondyloarthritis includes both radiographic axSpA (aka Ankylosing Spondylitis) and non-radiographic axSpA (nr-axSpA). The diagnosis of axSpA can be challenging and often requires a multi-disciplinary approach. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in order to achieve the best outcomes and to avoid complications.
This specialized axial spondyloarthritis clinic will provide our patients access to state-of-the-art care that will aid in a timely diagnosis of the disease. Patients will also have access to a wide variety of novel treatment options, including possible localized image-guided injections. We collaborate closely with other specialists to provide a wholistic plan of care for patients. We work closely with musculoskeletal radiology, ophthalmology, dermatology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physiatry, orthopedic spine, and pain clinics.
In this clinic, patients will have the opportunity to enroll in different types of cutting-edge research including clinical trials, epidemiologic studies, and basic science research such as gut microbiome and pain pathways. OHSU is an academic institution; therefore, we strive to train new generation providers to diagnose and manage this condition effectively.
A referral is required to be seen in this clinic, either by a primary care provider or other specialists.
