Division of Arthritis and Rheumatic Diseases
About us
Our division was founded in 1976. The OHSU division of Arthritis and Rheumatic Diseases includes a diverse group of dedicated, highly trained physicians and researchers who are committed to superb patient care, education, and research. Several of our faculty members are internationally recognized for their contributions to science and education. We cherish the opportunity to establish long-term relationships with patients, and recognize the challenges our patients face living with rheumatic conditions.
Fortunately, the last several decades of scientific advancements have brought about a new era in rheumatology. Key discoveries in basic sciences have led to breakthrough drug development allowing us to offer patients novel therapies for immune conditions, which had previously been very difficult to treat. Seeing our patients recover and improve is the most rewarding part of our profession. However, despite these advancements we also know that there is much more we need to learn, and more that needs to be done to care for patients with these complex conditions. For this reason, our team of rheumatologists and scientists are actively involved in basic science, translational, and clinical research—striving to move rheumatology forward. In addition to clinical care, we offer and encourage patients to participate in research, and enroll in clinical trials and databases.
Mission Statement
As an academic rheumatology division, we deliver compassionate, patient-centered care grounded in clinical excellence and multidisciplinary collaboration. We empower the next generation of rheumatologists to become experts in the field and inquisitive lifelong learners. Through cutting-edge basic, clinical, and translational research, we foster innovation and the development of novel therapeutics to advance rheumatology care.
