Abdominoplasty
Factors such as pregnancy, significant weight gain or loss, aging and inherited traits can cause saggy skin, stretch marks and fat deposits in the abdominal region. Even more frustrating, these issues may persist, despite a proper diet and exercise and can cause the abdomen to appear disproportionate to the body. In many cases, a flabby abdomen is due not only to fat, but poor elasticity of the skin and a stretching of the inner girdle responsible for the tone and appearance of the abdomen.
OHSU plastic surgeons are highly skilled in abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck,” an outpatient procedure to eliminate excess fat and skin and create a firmer and slimmer abdominal contour. During the procedure, the surgeon will remove excess fat and skin from the area and tighten weakened or separated muscles within the abdomen. The skin is then stretched over the naval for a flatter abdomen and thinner waist.
A less invasive surgery is a partial abdominoplasty or “mini tummy tuck.” This procedure is ideal for patients with fat deposits limited to below the navel area.
