Child Abuse and Neglect
The Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) program provides medical evaluations of children who are admitted to our hospital and suspected to be victims of child abuse or neglect. At the request of a Doernbecher doctor, we provide consultation and evaluation of suspected abuse and/or neglect, as well as manage the delicate interaction between families, Department of Human Services Child Protection Services and law enforcement.
How to request a SCAN consult:
- Mandatory reporters are required to report any suspicion of child abuse and/or neglect to the DHS child abuse hotline for the patient’s county of residence (503-731-3100 for Multnomah County).
- The attending physician or their representative may call 503-346-0644 to request a consult. Information should include the patient’s name, location, date of birth, and concerns of abuse and or neglect. Refer to Suspected Child Physical Abuse (Form PD-4043) checklist for evaluation guidelines.
