Staying Overnight

Some conditions may require your child to stay in the emergency room overnight for observation. Conditions such as asthma, dehydration and croup are common reasons for children to be kept in the pediatric emergency room.

Recliner chairs are provided for parents in the rooms so you can stay with your child.

If your child needs to be admitted to the hospital, our emergency room doctor will coordinate with a team of doctors and nurses at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Your child’s primary care provider will be notified of the admission.

If a hospital room is not immediately available, your child can wait comfortably in their bed in the emergency room. We will keep you informed of any delay.
