Pre-operative optimization

Prior to elective (planned out) surgery it is important to be at peak health in order to reduce your risk and improve outcomes.  While we cannot reverse aging, we can improve many health issues in preparation for hernia repair and other surgeries.  It is important that you maintain your own health and regularly meet with your physicians (primary care physician, cardiologist, pulmonologist, hepatologist, etc) to make sure you have received any necessary tests as well as recommended medicines to treat any active medical problems.   Eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly are other crucial aspects to health maintenance.  

There are treatable medical problems that have been shown to increase risk of complications and hernia recurrence following hernia repair.  We will have a frank discussion to ensure you and your body are optimized prior to undergoing repair.   Some of the most important problems that will need to be addressed include:
