Thank you for choosing a career at OHSU! The New Employee Orientation (NEO) team is thrilled to assist with your onboarding, in partnership with your manager and your department. We know that there is a lot to do before starting a new job and the list of resources below is curated to help you get started.

Helpful tips

​​​​​​Complete your required paperwork: 

  • Please review the email you received outlining these tasks to complete electronically in the New Hire Portal or Enterprise Health: 
  • Depending on your position and work location, there may be these additional tasks to complete: 
    • Complete health surveys in Enterprise Health. 
    • Make an appointment with Occupational Health if requested for your role. 
      • Please note the location of Occupational Health on the Marquam Hill Campus is 3161 SW Pavilion Loop, 97239 (Second Floor, SW Wing) 
      • For regional campuses, arrangements at a different location will be made if you need an Occupational Health appointment.  
    • Prepare to bring your education documentation for your bachelors, masters, and/or doctorate degree or email your degrees as requested by your department.  
    • Prepare to upload in the New Hire Portal and provide your department with documentation of your American Heart Association Basic Life Saving (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications as required for your position. If you do not upload the certifications in the application or portal, please email them to askhumanresources@ohsu.edu
  • For information about commuting to one of our primary locations in the Portland area, please review our commute to work and school site.  
  • Contact the Employee Leaves and Accommodations team at ela@ohsu.edu to learn about and request accommodations for disability, pregnancy, or religion.
  • Review OHSU's employee benefit options.
  • Read your email for any additional pre-hire tasks and OHSU information.

  • Your department onboarding contact will communicate with you regarding when you need to arrive, where to go, and what to bring with you on your first day. 
  • We recommend you complete the I-9 on your first day of employment. It is required within the first three days of employment.
    • Please plan on presenting acceptable documents needed for completing your I-9. 
    • All OHSU Central Campus and West Campus employees will complete the required I-9 paperwork in person. ​​​​​​
    • If you are a remote or regional campus employee and unable to complete the I-9 in person, contact your hiring manager and the HR Service Center at AskHumanResources@ohsu.edu for steps on remote I-9 completion. 
  • New Employee Orientation is virtual. This event will be automatically assigned to you in OHSU's learning management system. You will need to select a date and time to attend. Please read your emails where you will receive a link to our Onboarding at OHSU which provides a checklist and information you need as a new employee.  
  • Once you have completed the required learning module, you can obtain your OHSU ID badge. To create a gender-inclusive environment, you can select to have your pronouns added to your badge.
    • On Marquam Hill in Portland, the Human Resources Service Center for 1-9 completion and Campus Access and Commute Services for badges are both located in the Physical Plant building​.​
    • If you work outside of the Portland metro area, you can work with your supervisor to receive your badge by mail or make arrangements to pick it up at an alternative OHSU location.
    • School of Nursing regional campus employees have a process for receiving their badges at their campuses.

  • Orient to your work site or communicate with your manager to secure any necessary equipment or supplies if working remotely.
  • Clarify timekeeping, attendance procedures, and performance expectations with your manager.
  • Gain access to OHSU’s internal networks and systems.
  • Attend an Introduction to Benefits session and enroll in benefits (if applicable) as soon as possible to ensure timely coverage.
  • Request a date and time to attend a Virtual New Employee Orientation Live Connect session.
  • Explore the Employee Resource Groups to build connections with colleagues across the institution. 
  • Continue your training and deepen your understanding of OHSU.
