On Track OHSU! Program

On Track OHSU! is a centrally staffed program which performs outreach to Oregon high schools and middle schools with the specific goal of increasing the numbers of underrepresented minority students in scientific research and medical careers. This program provides opportunity for students and faculty at OHSU to engage with students across the state of Oregon.

On Track hosts a number of events throughout the year, including:

  • On Track Fair – Students from local and rural schools (~100 students) partnered with On Track come to OHSU and attend a fair that has tables from all career and health care specialties at OHSU. These Fairs occur once a month during the school year for middle and high school students.
  • Mentor Visits – On Track helps with transportation to the high schools where we chat with a room of high school students interested in STEM careers. Volunteers talk about their path to where they are now. They also give advice on transitioning to college, financial aid, and finding research in college.
  • Discovery Careers – On Track brings students from partnering schools to OHSU where volunteers talk to students in small groups for ~30 min at a time about what our career is like with enough time to do an activity. Also provides time for students to ask questions about college, applying to college, and going to further education after college.
  • Lab visits – On Track is happy to help coordinate high school students who are interested in seeing what a day in lab looks like for labs who are interested in mentoring students for a day.
