Grant Updates
NIH K23 Project
Dr. Johnstone received an NIH grant focused on enrolling a participant population that reflects the demographics of the communities in the broad Portland area to ensure study results generalize to a wide range of children with ADHD. The study also examines the feasibility and acceptability of self-collecting biological samples: blood and urine.
Waterloo Microbiome Grant
Dr. Jeni Johnstone received a grant to examine the stool microbiome and metabolome of the MADDY study participants, resulting in one publication on changes after micronutrients compared to placebo and changes in responders to micronutrients (Read our results in Gut Microbes). Ongoing work is assessing the comparison between the microbiome and metabolome as it relates to ADHD symptoms and diet quality.
Psychology Department Seed Money Grants
Two grants have been awarded to our lab from the Department of Psychology at OHSU.
- Dr. Bruton is assessing the cortisol levels of hair samples from the MADDY study.
- Dr. Ast is assessing the herbicide glyphosate in urine samples as it relates to diet and the MADDY study.
Genetics and Methylation Pathways
Our Canadian partners, lead by Dr. Brenda Leung, are looking into the genetics and epigenetics of MADDY study samples.
