PGY - 1
Alex Lichtl, MD
Dr. Alexandria Lichtl was born in Key West, FL, and received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Global Health from Duke University (go Blue Devils). She studied medicine at New York University and spent two months with the otology department at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago. Dr. Lichtl’s hobbies include running with her dog, caring for her plethora of plants, spending time near the ocean, hiking with her fiancé, and traveling as much as possible. She also enjoys keeping Dr. Kafle and Dr. Phillips up to date on local ice cream flavors.
Alisa Phillips, MD
Dr. Alisa Phillips was born and raised in Colorado Springs, CO (go Broncos!). She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology and a graduate degree in Business Analytics from the University of Denver. Before attending medical school, she worked as a Senior Operations Analytics Consultant at VUMC in Nashville, TN. Dr. Phillips pursued her medical degree at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN. When she’s not shepherding her perpetually lost co-residents through the hospital, Dr. Phillips enjoys running outdoors with her golden retriever, Elle, cooking, watching Harry Potter, and wine tasting in Willamete Valley. Drs. Kafle and Lichtl can always count on Dr. Phillips to suggest a visit to a local ice cream shop at the end of every hangout.
Samip Kafle, MD
Dr. Samip Kafle was born in Kathmandu, Nepal and spent his formative years in the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon. He studied neuroscience at the University of Nevada, Reno (go Wolf Pack! 🐺), and completed his medical degree at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. He enjoys exploring nature and hiking, creating and consuming music and art, lounging around with his wife and cat, and playing very bad chess with anyone who will indulge him with a game. Dr. Kafle bravely represents the lactose-intolerant contingent in his ice cream-obsessed cohort, always ready with suggestions for Portland's non-dairy (and more beer-adjacent) culinary delights.
PGY - 2
Michelle Buncke, MD
Dr. Buncke was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and attended college at Williams (where she ran Cross-Country and Track & Field, and also wrote a thesis about plants). She went to medical school at OHSU, where she trained for four years on how to direct Dr. Pavelchek and Dr. Salmon to various locations within the hospital. In her free time, she enjoys running inhuman distances in beautiful places, drinking too much coffee, and convincing Dr. Pavelchek and Dr. Salmon that ski touring is far superior to resort skiing.
Cole Pavelchek, MD
Dr. Pavelchek was born in raised in San Diego, attended college at UCSD, and medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. He enjoys backpacking, skiing, dragging his girlfriend out of bed at 4am for yoga, spending exorbitant amounts of money on automated lights & other home fixtures, and proposing hangouts to be planned Dr. Buncke and Dr. Salmon.
Mandy Salmon, MD
Dr. Mandy Salmon was born in Cambridge, England and grew up in Savannah, Georgia. She attended Georgia Institute of Technology for her undergraduate degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. She then worked in Aarhus, Denmark on a Fulbright scholarship studying biomechanics of implantable heart devices before attending medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. In her spare time, Dr. Salmon enjoys hiking, playing ukelele, traveling, petting other people's dogs, drinking coffee made by Dr. Buncke's partner and forcing Dr. Pavelchek to drive her to CostCo.
PGY - 3
Ryan Bishop, MD
Dr. Ryan Bishop grew up near Seattle, Washington and completed his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at the University of Washington. Following graduation, he worked in EMS for two years before heading to Columbus, Ohio to complete his MD at The Ohio State University. Outside the hospital, he enjoys rock climbing, playing soccer, hiking and backpacking, cooking, travel, and playing board games.
Maddie Colcord, MD
Dr. Maddie Colcord was born in Frankfurt, Germany and grew up in Davidson, North Carolina. She attended the University of North Carolina for her undergraduate degree in Public Health while working as an EMT at a fire department in Durham, NC. She then worked in Charlotte, NC in care coordination for infants and children on Medicaid. After deciding to pursue medical school, she completed her post-bacc pre-medicine courses at the University of Virginia, and then worked in orthopedic trauma clinical research while applying to medical school. She then completed her medical education at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Colcord loves feeding her house plants, shopping at Costco, exploring any body of water, fishing, and learning the flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest.
Morgan Terry, MD
Dr. Morgan Terry was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. She travelled south for college where she played soccer at University of Alabama at Birmingham and graduated with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. She then returned to Ohio for medical school at Case Western Reserve University. In her spare time, Dr. Terry enjoys playing soccer, knitting, bouldering, and playing board games.
PGY - 4
Kavita Bhatnagar, MD
Dr. Kavita Bhatnagar grew up in Maryland. She completed her undergraduate degree in Public Health Studies at Johns Hopkins University, then went on to get her MD from University of Maryland Medical School. She is very interested in global health, and has spent several months working in India as well as interning with the WHO. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, cooking and painting.
Matt Studer, MD
Dr. Matt Studer grew up in Albuquerque, NM. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biology with a concentration in Neuroscience at Washington University in St. Louis. After working a year in the private sector for a contract research organization, Dr. Studer headed down to Atlanta, GA to complete his medical degree at Emory University. He was fortunate to discover the field of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery early on, and became involved in various research projects with his mentors at Emory. Outside the hospital, Dr. Studer enjoys skiing, reading, eating moderately spicy food, live music, and visiting the coast.
Farshid Taghizadeh, MD
Dr. Farshid Taghizadeh was born and raised in Iran, where he studied and practiced physical therapy for a short time before moving to Turkey. After two years in beautiful Turkey, he moved to Portland, Oregon where he graduated in Molecular Biology and Chemistry from Portland State University. During his medial education at OHSU, he was introduced to Otolaryngology through basic science research in ototoxicity. Besides medicine and surgery, he enjoys cooking, fishing, the outdoors, and spending time with his wife and toddler.

Michael I. Dougherty, MD
Dr. Michael I. Dougherty grew up in Lexington, Kentucky. He attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia where he completed his undergraduate degree in Biology and was introduced to Otolaryngology through his work in a basic science laboratory focused on head and neck cancer. He stayed at UVA to complete his medical education. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys cooking, running, fly fishing, and college basketball.
Jeffrey Hyzer, MD
Dr. Jeffrey Hyzer was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, and then returned to Oregon to complete medical school at OHSU. Dr. Hyzer enjoys music, especially singing, downhill skiing, and traveling to visit family and friends throughout the United States and abroad.
Keven Ji, MD
Dr. Keven Seung Yong Ji was born in Seoul, Korea and grew up in Toronto, Canada. He graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Biology. He then received his MD and Master of Clinical Research degree at Duke University School of Medicine. In his free time, he enjoys running, lifting, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the great outdoors and books.
