For Researchers
The OHSU Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery is dedicated to creating new and expanded knowledge from basic and clinical research. From laboratory (basic) research and testing to conducting clinical trials and research on human participants, our scientists do the kinds of life-saving research that allows us to provide our doctors with a better understanding of the cause, prevention and treatment of disorders of the ear, nose, throat, head and neck.
The Oregon Hearing Research Center, the basic research part of our Department, focuses on basic science research of the auditory and vestibular systems. The OHRC is one of the strongest hearing research groups in the world and our scientists are internationally and nationally known for their work on hearing disorders and hearing loss research.
Many of our doctors are also scientists, and work on clinical research. This type of research involves human subjects and often involves a clinical trial of a new treatment or medication for a disease or condition. The OHSU Tinnitus Clinic was internationally recognized as one of the top centers for Tinnitus therapy and research in the United States.
All of our doctors, researchers, and staff work hard to discover the best and most reliable course of treatment for disorders of the ear, nose, throat, head, and neck, including cancer, thyroid disorders, voice and swallowing, and pediatric conditions. Our residents (doctors in training) also work on research as part of their training, so that our newest doctors are just as focused on the best care for our patients.
