Mission

The mission of the residency program of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine is to train future physician anesthesiologists to meet the needs of their community and lead our specialty.

Program Aims

1. Develop physicians committed to using evidence-based practice, quality improvement and advances in patient safety to provide superior patient-centered care.

2. Create innovative educational programs and methods, and confirm effectiveness through outcomes research.

3. Develop national and community leaders in anesthesiology and medicine.

4. Advance the field of anesthesiology through support of resident scholarly activity.

5. Foster a mutually supportive and respectful culture that actively promotes diversity, wellness, and teamwork to cultivate an effective learning environment.

Applications will be accepted only through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). If you have any questions about ERAS, please contact the Dean's Office at your School of Medicine. Applications will be considered complete when they include:

A recent photo is also helpful to us. For IMG’s, you must have an ECFMG certificate and participate in the NRMP. In addition, those applicants who are not USA citizens must be able to meet the current requirements for an appropriate USA visa and be eligible to work in the United States upon matriculation. 

In an effort to attain a more comprehensive understanding of personal characteristics and future aspirations, we are encouraging all interested applicants to answer the following questions.  Please limited your responses to less than 150 words per questions and upload with your ERAS documents. Please include the supplemental questions at the bottom of your personal statement. The supplemental questions can extend the personal statement to a second page.

2. Please describe how you have improved yourself as an advocate/ally and how you plan to incorporate this into your medical training and practice.

No ERAS application will be considered complete until the Dean's letter is included (which are distributed in October). Deadline for submission for a completed ERAS application is November 1st. Your application will be reviewed initially and then again upon completion. Interviews are offered to those candidates who fulfill our Department's criteria. Interviews will be scheduled during October, November, December, January.

A note about our various programs:

You will see 4 different options in ERAS for our program: Categorical (14 spots/y), Advanced (2 spots/yr), Oregon Scholars Program Critical Care (2 spots/yr) and Clinician Scientist/Research (1 spot/yr). If you are interested in more than one “track,” you will be able to note this on the application. If you are applying to the Oregon Scholars Program, all attempts will be made for any specific Critical Care Medicine or Research Track interviews to occur on the same day as your residency interview, if deemed suitable for those tracks. Additionally, you will be considered for any residency track you choose, categorical and/or advanced. The applicant will have final say in which program, if any, is most important to them. For example, if you deem the OSP CCM track is your top choice for OHSU, but are also interested in our categorical program, you will be able to rank both programs on your rank list. Additionally, we will rank applicants for any OSP tracks applied/interviewed for, as well as for the regular residency tracks.

A note about Program Signals: If you choose to Program Signal us, you will only utilize one signal for our program, which would encompass any of the 4 “tracks” – in other words, you can apply to all four of our tracks with only utilizing one Program Signal.
