Each year, the OHSU Preventive Residency Program accepts two residents who have completed at least one year of clinical training. 

Applicants can include residents, fellows and practicing physicians. Applications must be completed through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). 

Eligible applicants to the OHSU Preventive Medicine Residency Program must:

  • All applicants must be eligible for employment at OHSU at the time of hire  
  • All applicants must have completed at least one year of clinical training in an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited residency program prior to the start of Preventive Medicine Program
  • All candidates must qualify for a limited medical license through the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners  
  • All applicants must have successfully completed United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) steps I, II and III prior to the start of the residency program OR successfully completed Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) steps I, II and III prior to the start of the residency program
  • All applicants must have graduated from a U.S. or Canadian medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or have graduated from a foreign medical school and be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates prior to the start of the residency program  
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, permanent legal resident (hold a green card) or hold/be eligible for a visa sponsored by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Common visa types at OHSU are the F1, H1B, and J1 visas

How to Apply

  • Register for the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP)  
  • Complete application through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) including the following components: 
    • Personal statement
      • Please limit to one page and be sure to include what draws you to a career in public health and general preventive medicine, any relevant past experiences, and how you plan to use your training in the future
    • Medical school transcript and Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
    • USMLE or COMLEX scores
    • Three Letters of Recommendation are required, including one from current or previous Program Director. Letters of Recommendation should be recent (i.e., last 6 months), with exception of Program Director letter, which may be dated according to training dates
    • If previously completed, Masters in Public Health school transcript (this is not required or expected for acceptance, and there is no preference given to applicants with prior MPH completion)
  • Interviews are by invitation and are conducted from October through December
