Rotation Structure
The rotation structure for the OHSU Preventive Medicine Residency occurs over 2 years, after the resident has completed a PGY1 transitional year, or a prior residency in another ACGME-recognized specialty. As shown in the sample block diagram, the first year in our program (i.e., PGY2 year) combines a blend of rotations including population health management and administration, county health department work, clinical prevention, and elective time. The second year in our program (i.e., PGY3 year) allows additional time for a practicum, which is a mentored experience in an area of preventive medicine of particular interest to each individual resident. For residents that enter the residency without an MPH, MPH coursework will be integrated into both years of training.

- 1 It is estimated that residents will spend approximately 50 hours per week in academics, rotations, clinical activities and resident seminar
- 2 All rotations are vacation eligible, although residents are not allowed to take vacation during scheduled MPH coursework without prior approval from course director
- 3 No more than 1 week of vacation may be taking during any specific block
- 4 Each PGY level will have at least 2 months of direct patient care experience per year. Time will be integrated across the academic year to promote continuity experiences. Residents will have increased clinical time on weeks without scheduled MPH coursework.
