Consultation Liaison Fellowship
Welcome from the Consultation Liaison Fellowship Program
The Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Consultation Liaison Fellowship Program takes pride in offering a well-balanced training experience. Fellows spend half their time at OHSU (a quaternary care hospital) and half at VA Portland Health Care System. Time is divided between inpatient and ambulatory care settings based on fellows' areas of clinical interest. This diversity of experience is in line with the shift within PSM from predominantly inpatient to a mix of inpatient and ambulatory settings. In ambulatory settings, fellows consult in both primary care and specialty care programs, assume continuity care of patients, and develop longitudinal relationships with an interdisciplinary group of colleagues.
The curriculum also includes formal didactic and participatory conferences. Fellows gain the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to provide expert psychiatric care to patients with comorbid and complex medical-surgical problems and consult effectively to medical colleagues. We place an emphasis on the fellow developing into a lifelong learner, and completing the fellowship prepared to enter a career as a clinician-educator.
The program has received full accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medicine Education (ACGME). Most members of the combined OHSU/VA Portland Consultation Liaison Psychiatry faculty have American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology subspecialty certification in Consultation Liaison or dual Medicine-Psychiatry Board Certification. Several faculty members are core investigators of the VA Health Services Research & Development funded Center for the Study of Chronic Comorbid Mental and Physical Disorders.
The fellowship is one-year in duration and at the PGY-5 level. We welcome interest in the program.
