Reflections from past fellows:
Lisa Wise, MD, '22: "I wasn’t sure I wanted to do a fellowship to begin with but have always been drawn to geriatrics and neurocognitive disorders and the beauty of the northwest was calling me. The geriatric psychiatry fellowship at OHSU was a memorable and meaningful experience. The faculty care about teaching and about patients and created a supportive environment. I had no call nights, no weekends and could enjoy a great work life balance. Best of all, I have developed skills that will follow me forever. I will continue to work on and develop these, but and I am much more confident having had this experience and would do it all over again."
Brent Beenders, MD/PhD, '20: "Geropsychiatry fellowship is equal parts rich training and rewarding patient care experience. The training facilitates confident, evidence-based practice, and while I am still early in my career, I believe the experience will translate to a broad array of practice styles and treatment settings."
Anna Jung, MD, '19: "I cannot emphasize how wonderful the geriatric psychiatry fellowship program at OHSU was for my education and growth as a psychiatrist. The rotations were well thought out, while providing some flexibility and my attendings were tremendous. Although I am currently working as a general adult psychiatrist, having completed a geriatric psychiatry fellowship added so much more to the way I think about and approach the care of my adult patients and their future."
Mary Lajoy, MD, '15: "I am an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry with OHSU and serve as the rotation coordinator for the OHSU PGY2 geropsychiatry rotation. I found the geropsychiatry fellowship at OHSU to be unique and wonderful opportunity to further my knowledge in the field of geropsychiatry. The fellowship has a wide breadth of learning opportunities that left me feeling well prepared for a career in academic psychiatry at the VA."
