Course details

Grand rounds is mainly a case-based CME conference representing all areas of ophthalmology. Residents and fellows present common and uncommon cases with interesting clinical questions and a faculty moderator will facilitate the discussion. The aim of the conference is to educate the audience on clinical pearls, best practices, quality improvement, and examining the contemporary evidence.

Target audience: Ophthalmologists and ophthalmologists in training.

Topic: " The Harderian Gland: A Gland You Wish You Had"

Speaker: Daniel Albert, M.D. 

Learning objectives

Participants will be able to: 

  1. Know the history of the Harderian gland, what its functions are, and learn about the transient presence of the Harderian gland in primates.
  2. Be aware of the relationship between Harderian gland tumors and mammary gland tumors occurring in a mouse transgenic model of breast cancer.
  3. Understand the role of the Harderian gland in the rabbit model of evaporative dry eye and in the guinea pig model of thyroid
    exophthalmos.
